FDR's Little White House

We woke up to 33 degrees this morning. It was cold but the sky was clear and sunny. It didn't take long for the temperature to start climbing. It was 68 by noon.

Today we went to Warm Springs, GA to visit the Little White House. Franklin Delano Roosevelt built the Little White House in 1932 while governor of New York, prior to being inaugurated as president in 1933. He first came to Warm Springs in 1924 hoping to find a cure for the infantile paralysis (polio) that had struck him in 1921. Swimming in the warm, spring waters brought him no miracle cure, but it did bring improvement.

Roosevelt visited Warm Springs 16 times during his 4 terms as President. He died here on April 12, 1945.
The springs are a constant 88 degrees. There is a trough where you can feel the spring water. The pools are only filled once a year in hopes of preserving their structure. It takes 170,000 gallons of water to fill the pools.
