Ciudad Chihuahua (City of Chihuahua)

We skirted the city of Chihuahua. It is has a population of about 800,000 people. There is much industry and lots of growing pains – traffic, road construction and housing. It is a mix of Mexican & US Stores. Many signs are bilingual.

We had hoped to find warmer weather as we traveled south. Left El Paso at 29 degrees this morning (6 am). We arrived at our campground in Chihuahua at 2:30 pm after traveling through rain, sleet & ice. Current temperature is 32 and it is snowing steadily.

We drove 245 miles today and traveled through the 2 largest cities in the state of Chihuahua. Juarez is the largest with a population of 1.5 million people! There are 5 million people in the state which has an area 96,000 square miles. All of the Copper Canyon is located in this state.

We have a little time to rest and will go by bus for dinner tonight and entertainment by the Mexico Folkloric Ballet.
