Our last day on the train

Today was our longest day on the rail. The engine hooked on and started to pull at 6 am. We traveled 157 miles and pulled into Los Mochis after 6 pm.

We thought we would be lazy and spend some extra time in bed but the ride was too noisy and jerky. And we were too curious about what was going on outside. We quickly showered & dressed and spent the day outside enjoying the scenery and warm sunshine.

We started at 5,100 feet above sea level and ended at 100 feet. We traveled through many tunnels and over many bridges. Some of the tunnels are built along the edge of the mountain just to keep the falling rocks from the tracks. That is what is pictured in the last photo.

We passed many friendly and curious people all along the route. Most smiled and waved, watching the entire train pass.

Today we saw mountains, lakes, plains, ranches, citrus trees, banana trees, gerainums & poinsettia as big as shrubs, and many native trees starting to bloom. We are also seeing cactus again.

In 4 days and 5 nights on the rails, we traveled 295 miles, through 86 tunnels and over 39 bridges. What a trip!!!

The entry into Los Mochis was through a very rough neighborhood. They asked the women to stay inside and the men to stand outside on the flat cars with the Ninjas to wave and help discourage people from throwing rocks & trash at us. There were no incidents and there were many women & children waving and smiling.

We will spend our last night on the rails tonight. We start unloading early tomorrow.
