West Texas Agriculture

Today we continued across west Texas on US 180. It was interesting to see the fields. Mostly we saw cotton in various stages of picking. There were many cotton gins in the small towns and some right on the farms. This is a photo of picking in one of the fields. Enlarge the photo to see the John Deere pickers and the big bale of cotton.

Further down the road, we saw watermelon fields and produce shipping warehouses.

We also saw pecan groves and pecan packing houses. And after the pecans, fields of peanuts and packing houses for peanuts.

All interesting and different crops for us to see.

The pecan groves are neat. In the summer they flood them with water from the rio grande. It looks kind of weird to see all of those trees and no land. I had never seen anything like it.
