We took the North Fork Highway from the West Glacier Visitor Center to Polebridge. It was 25 miles north.
Notice that this doesn't look like a normal highway and we expect more roads like this on our trip. It was paved in spots, gravel in others and just hard packed dirt in the rest. Locals told us that we were lucky it was wet -- otherwise the dust is thick and makes travel difficult.
Our destination was Polebridge Mercantile (& Bakery). Our nephew visited here several years ago and told us that this stop was a MUST. What wonderful pastries -- we had hot pastry pocket sandwiches. For dessert, I had a Huckleberry & Chocolate Chip Brownie and Walt had a Huckleberry Bear Claw. Excellent.
We also bought Huckleberry Sourdough Beer Bread, cherry cinnamon rolls and Huckleberry Bear Claws to stock our cupboard.
On the drive we saw many whitetail deer as well as cattle in open range.
